Why did Shakespeare use iambic pentameter for the dialogue of noble characters, while commoners often spoke in blank verse or prose?

Iambic pentameter was used for nobles in order to make them appear more put together and sophisticated.  Commoners were made to use blank verse/ prose because it would seem less educated, as they were in the plays.
