The war started due to a fight between the goddesses Hera, Athena and Aphrodite. The goddesses were fighting over who was the most beautiful one, as she would get to keep Eris's golden apple (the Apple of Discord). Paris was called by Zeus to judge, and he decided Aphrodite was the most beautiful. As a reward, the goddess made Helen, the most beautiful woman on Earth, fall in love with Paris. However, Helen was married to Menelaus, king of Mycenaean Sparta. Paris kidnapped Helen, and took her to Troy. Agamemnon, Menelaus' brother, led an expedition to Troy, starting the Trojan War.
