Technically, this would be a B. a short-term goal

Although you may be freaking out and be like "wth, no it's a long-term goal, he has to go through a program", but think about this. Lets go through the Process of Elimination first. It's not a defense mechanism, a defense mechanism is a mental process of avoiding conflicts and/or anxiety. It isn't good communication, that is just irrelevant, likewise with a defense mechanism. Now, it isn't a long-term goal because although he may be going through a medical program, this is a goal LEADING to another goal, which is in fact called a short term goal. A good vast majority of short-term goals always have reason and lead to long-term goals. Derek is doing a medical program (Short-Term Goal) TO help him get into a good medical school (Long-Term Goal).

I hope this helps, please leave a thanks because you are welcome :)
