A mixture of two gases exerts a total pressure of 2.25 atm. if the partial pressure of one of the gases is 1.43 atm, what is the partial pressure of the other gas in the mixture?

P(total)=P(partial)+P(partial)....
2.25=1.43+P
P=0.82 atm

Answer : The partial pressure of other gas in a mixture is, 0.82 atm

Solution :

According to the Dalton's law, the total pressure of the gas is equal to the sum of the partial pressure of the mixture of gasses.


P_T=p_(A)+p_(B)

where,


P_T = total partial pressure = 2.25 atm


P_(A) = partial pressure of one gas = 1.43 atm


P_(B) = partial pressure of another gas = ?

Now put all the given values is expression, we get the partial pressure of the another gas.


2.25atm=1.43atm+p_(B)


p_(B)=0.82atm

Therefore, the partial pressure of other gas in a mixture is, 0.82 atm
