What reason does macbeth give for ordering the murder of banquo and his son

He worries that Banquo will be suspicious of Duncan's murder so he decides to kill Banquo and his son Fleance in order to ensure that none of Banquo's people take the throne after him. He doesn't want people to know that hes guilty of killing the king.
