if she guesses that he is securely attached, he most likely: was not afraid of strangers when his mother was in the room with him

There is an instinctual defense mechanism that every infants have to see the adult that taken care of them as their guardian that protect them from any danger. Which caused the baby able to stay calm with strangers as long as he see his guardian around him.
