You need to cover the playground of a Child Development Center with mulch the playground is 125 feet long and 6 feet wide you want the march to be at least 6 inches deep how many cubic yards of mulch should you have delivered round your answer to the nearest whole number

It is basically asking how much stuff will it taken to fill a 3 dimensional space. to fill a space we have to find the volume shape. we can go to the basics and say first find the area of the rectangle. the equation for this is:
area = length * width

after that we can say that we want to find that area but for every rectangle that is 6 inches deep. that is what volume means. the areas of all the rectangles of a certain height stacked together. So we can say the equation for volume is:
volume = area * height

we know that area = length * width and can substitute that into the equation:
volume = length * width * height

but first it also asks to put the answer I cubic yards. So we must convert units to yards.

conversion for inches to feet is 12 inches per feet. And other one is 3 feet per hard
So conversions are:
depth = 6 inches * 1/12 feet/inches * 1/3 feet/yard
length = 125 feet * 1/3 feet/yard
width = 6 feet * 1/3 feet/yard
So so they equal :
1/6 yds
125/3 yds
2

So:
volume =1/6 * 125/3 * 2
v = 13.89 yds^3

rounded to nearest whole number is:
14 yds^3

V=xyz, where x,y, and z are the dimensions.

We simply have to be sure that we are using the required units, yards in the calculations...

V=(125ft(yd/3ft))*(6ft(yd/3ft))*(6in(yd/36in))

V=(125*6*6)/(3*3*36)

V=4500/324 yd^3

V≈14 yd^3 (to nearest whole yard)
