Photosynthesis is important for life on Earth because the end result is always the emission of carbon dioxide. When plants undergo photosynthesis, they use solar energy to create their own food with chemical energy. Carbon dioxide is used to sustain life on Earth because we humans exhale it, and we inhale the oxygen emitted in the environment. If photosynthesis didn’t exist, there would likely be more food scarcity as well because plants wouldn’t be able to make their own food.

Photosynthesis sustains life on Earth today by releasing oxygen into the atmosphere and providing energy for food chains. The rise of oxygen-producing photosynthesis allowed the evolution of complex life forms like animals and land plants around 2.4 billion years ago.
