Connective tissue has many functions in the body. one major function of connective tissue is to nourish and cushion the epithelia. the connective tissue also provides a barrier against pathogens that successfully invade the epithelial tissue. where would you most expect to find connective tissue that interacts with epithelial tissue as described above?

Sub epithelial, below all epithelial exposed to elements. This is also called "loose areolar" connective tissue
