If xy<82 and y is a positive multiple of 3, what is the greatest possible integer value of x ?

Answer: x=27

Explanation:

y can equal 3,6,9,12,13,18,21,24,27, or 30

The greatest possible x is when y is at it's least multiple (3).

3x<82

Divide 3 on both sides

x=27

This also makes sense when you plug x into the equation

3x<82

3(27)<82

81<82

y = 3.k (multiple of 3)
xy<82
x<8/3.k
for k =1, x<82/3

x<27.33

so the greatest is x=27
