We can detect five different tastes with the taste receptor cells on out tongue. The taste receptor cells (TRCs) are part of the sensory organs appear mostly on the tongue, the roof of the mouth and in the back of the throat. These taste receptors give us people the ability to evaluate what we eat and drink. The five basic tastes are: sweet, sour, bitter, salty and umami( savory).
