2/3 is 2 parts of three being used. 1/4is 1 peice of four say you have a tea set it has 4 peices and you lost three of the pieces now you have 1/4 of the tea set left

I attached two photos below. The first circle that is divided into 4 sections shows 1/4 of the circle shaded in green. The second circle is divided into 3 sections which shows 1/3 of the circle colored in with black lines.
