You have to FOIL this out to get the product. Start with the 6r. Multiply that by -8r to get -48r^2; next multiply the 6r by the -3 to get -18r. Then move to the inside: multiply -1 by -8r to get 8r; then multiply the -1 by -3 to get 3. Putting all that together, before simplifying, we have
-48r^2-18r+8r+3. Combining like terms we have
-48r^2-10r+3. Or, if you don't like to start polynomials with a negative coefficient, we can change them...all of them...without breaking any mathematical rules! An equivalent polynomial then is
48r^2+10r-3
