Therefore 56% of the alleles in this population are smooth alleles, 44% of the alleles are rough alleles.

Answer:

0.565\\Or\\56.5%

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

Number of plants with rough seed
= 19

Total number of plants
= 100

Genotype frequency for "plant with rough seed" i.e
q^(2) \\
= (19)/(100) \\= 0.19

So the allele frequency for "rough seed"
= \sqrt{q^(2) } \\= √(0.19) \\= 0.435\\

As per Hardy weinberg equation, we know that sum of allele frequencies around the locus is equal to one .

Thus,

p+q=1\\

Substituting the value of q in above equation, we get -

p+0.435=1\\p = 1-0.435\\p =0.565 \\Or 56.5%

p represent the frequency of smooth seed.
