What reason would have prompted the designers of the Articles of Confederation to exclude the role of a president for the nation?

They did not want to hold elections.
They were concerned a president could become a tyrant.
They wanted to create presidents for each state, only.
They believed that a president would be powerless.

“They were concerned a president could become a tyrant.” Remember that they had JUST fought a war to get rid of a tyrant (The Revolutionary War & King George III). So, they didn’t want to give a lot of power to one person and be in the same situation again.
