first number=x
second number= 3x-10

x+3x-10=50
4x-10=50
4x-10+10=50+10
4x=60
x=60/4
x=15

15
3x-10=3(15)-10=45-10=35

the numbers are 15 and 35

Answer: The required numbers are 35 and 15.

Step-by-step explanation: We are given that the sum of two numbers is 50 and one number is 10 less than three times the other number.

We are to find the two numbers.

Let x and y represents the two numbers.

Then, according to the given information, we have

x+y=50~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~(i)\\\\x=3y-10~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~(ii)

Substituting the value of x from equation (ii) in equation (i), we have

x+y=50\\\\\Rightarrow (3y-10)+y=50\\\\\Rightarrow 3y-10+y=50\\\\\Rightarrow 4y-10=50\\\\\Rightarrow 4y=50+10\\\\\Rightarrow 4y=60\\\\\Rightarrow y=\drac{60}{4}\\\\\Rightarrow y=15.

From equation (ii), we get

x=3*15-10=45-10=35.

Thus, the required numbers are 35 and 15.
