a protist that is a heterotroph and has chlorophyll

Protists obtain food in 3 ways. They produce their own organic molecules, ingest, and absorb. Ingestive protists ingest food, or engulf bacteria. These protists extend their cell wall and cell membrane forming a food vacuole around the food item. Inside the food vacuole, enzymes digest the food. Absorptive protists on the other hand, absorb food molecules across their cell membrane which takes place through diffusion. Absorptive protists play a key role in decomposition. They are considered as important decomposers. Major producers like photosynthetic protists use light energy to manufacture their own food.

Answer:

Protist that exhibits both animal- and plant-like characteristics are considered mixotrophic protist.

Step-by-step explanation:

Protists are eukaryotic because they have a nucleus. They can be classified by the way they acquired nutrition as autotrophic, heterotrophic, or mixotrophic. Autotrophic mean that they make photosynthesis, so the exhibits plant-like characteristics. Heterotrophic mean that they feed on other organisms, so they exhibit animal-like characteristics. Finally, the mixotrophic can obtain their nutrients in both previously described ways, so they present both plant- and animal-like characteristics.
