Glucose molecules that are linked by alpha-1,4 glycosidic linkages have a curve at the bond as compared to a beta-1,4 glycosidic linkages which are straight because of the nature of the bonds. The linear beta linkage is due to how the molecules are placed in the chain which would cause the monosaccharide to have a rotation of 180 degrees which would be a straight bond.
