A triangle has an area of 100 square feet and a height of 5 feet. What is the length of the base of the triangle?

The formula for finding the area of a triangle is 1/2(b x h) where b is the base and h is the height.

So in order to find the length of the base, we'll substitute in our values in our equation.

100 = 1/2 ( y x 5)
200 = (y x 5)
40 = y

So the length of the base = 40 feet

the equation for the area of a triangle is
(base length) x (height) / 2
so we can use algebra to solve this
let the base length be y feet
y x 5 / 2 = 100
y x 5 = 200
y = 40
therefore the base length of the triangle is 40 feet.
