American public's reaction to reading The Jungle was: The public was outraged and demanded legislative reform from the government.

The jungle tell a short documentary of American meatpacking industry during the early 20th century. The writing basically exposed how the meat industry during that time was really unsanitary and became a hazard for consumer's health, and lead to the creation of the inspection act.
