NH₃(aq) + HNO₃(aq) = NH₄NO₃(aq)
Ammonia is a weak base. The reaction of ammonia and nitric acid is a neutralization reaction.
NH₃ + H₂O = NH₄⁺ + OH⁻
HNO₃ + H₂O = H₃O⁺ + NO₃⁻
OH⁻ + H₃O⁺ = 2H₂O (neutralization)
