Let f(x) = 2x, g(x) = 2x^2 – x, and h(x) = 3x. Lola finds the composition [f o g o h](x) as shown below. What error did Lola make?

= 2[2(3x)^2 – 3x]
= 2[2(9x^2) – 3x]
= 2(18x^2 – 3x)
= 36x^2 – 3x

Lola made an error in the final step, which should be 36x^2 - 6x instead of 36x^2 - 3x. Option last is the right choice.

Distribute exponent:

2[2⋅3 ^2 x ^2 −3x]

Evaluate the exponent:

2[2⋅9x ^2−3x]

Multiply the numbers:

2[18x ^2−3x]

Distribute:

36x^2 −6x

Option last is the right choice.
