3x+y=17

x+2y=49
Times 3 for both side
3x+6y=147

Substitute the two equation

3x+6y=147
-
3x+y=17
=
5y=130
Divided 5 for both side
5y/5=130/5
y=26

x+2y=49
x+2(26)=49
x+52=49
Subtract 52 from both side
x+52-52=49-52
x=-3. As a result, it has a single solution: y=26 and x=-3. Hope it help!
