When my mother died I was very young, And my father sold me while yet my tongue, Could scarcely cry weep weep weep weep. So your chimneys I sweep & in soot I sleep. What do the events in the first stanza of William Blake’s “The Chimney Sweeper” suggest about the life of a chimney sweep?

The events in the first stanza of Williams Blake´s "The Chimney Sweeper" refers to harsh, miserable and dangerous times in which little boys tend to climb up chimneys. The smaller the better. And many were hired as chimney sweeps in miserable and filthy conditions. Their life was one of hardship and misery. It was a paid work and the money they earned was devoted to the family budget.
