Using Newton’s second law of motion, if the force on an object is 20 N, and its mass is 5 g, what is its acceleration?

Since the mass is 5 grams the acceleration is: 4000 m/s^2

But if the mass is 5 Kilograms the acceleration is: 4 m/s^2

Answer : Its acceleration is,
4000m/s^2

Solution : Given,

Force =
20N=20\text{ Kg m/s^2}
(1N=1\text{ Kg }m/s^2)

Mass = 5 g = 0.005 Kg (1 Kg = 1000 g)

Newton’s second law of motion states that the acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the force and inversely proportional to the mass of an object.

Formula used :


Acceleration=(Force)/(Mass)

Now put all the give values in this formula, we get


Acceleration=(Force)/(Mass)


Acceleration=\frac{20\text{ Kg }m/s^2}{0.005Kg}


Acceleration=4000m/s^2

Therefore, Its acceleration is,
4000m/s^2
