Solution:

Plot the given point and connect them by and straight line segment as shown in the below graph.

The distance between (4,5) and (4,-3) is


d=√((x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2)


d=√((4-4)^2+(-3-5)^2)


d=√((0)^2+(-8)^2)


d=√(0+64)


d=√(64)


d=8

Therefore, the length of the line segment is 8 units.
