Why does secondary succession happen more frequently than primary succession?

Secondary succession happens more frequently compared to primary succession because primary succession happens when new land is formed by volcanic activity.  However, secondary succession can happen with a cleared field and other examples too.

Soil nutrients remain in the area which enables plants to grow.
