y intercept occurs when x = 0

so its 0-4 / 0- 4 = 1

coordinates of y intercept is (0,1)

x intercept occurs when y = 0
(x -4) / (x^2-4) = 0

x-4 = 0
x = 4

x intercept at (4,0)

You solve the x-intercept by making the numerator 0 since 0/anything but 0 is 0. You solve the y-intercept by making x 0 since that what a y-intercept is defined as.
