Robert Filmer defended the idea of the divine right of kings - where kings were given power directly from God. The englightenment was the period of advanced thought and culture, where there were developments in the areas of science, culture, society, philosophy, and politics. It was led by intellectuals known as Enlightenment Thinkers. They spread the beliefs of reason over the traditional beliefs of faith.
