According to the truman doctrine, how did the united states intend to stop the spread of communism?

He outlined the American basic foreign policy to intimidate immigrants.
The doctrine took a turn for the better in certain situations.
It was more so the "Red Scare" which caused people to panic and advocate for the doctrine. The doctrine itself was to inform citizens but due to the context it put the country in an epidemic that caused people to snitch on neighbor and other regular day citizens.
