5a^(2) -44=81\\5a^(2) -44+44=81+44\\5a^(2) =125\\(5a^(2) )/(5) = (125)/(5) \\a^(2) =25\sqrt{a^(2) } = √(25) \\a=5\\{5,-5}

Hope this helps!!!

5a² - 44 = 81

Add 44 to both sides of the equation.

5a² = 81 + 44

Simplify.

5a² = 125

Divide both sides by 5, so that we get a² isolated.

a² = 125/5

Simplify.

a² = 25

a = √25

So, a = 5 AND a = -5

It could be both because remember, 5 × 5 = 25, and -5 × -5 = 25, therefore making the statement true.

~Hope I helped!~
