y = x -3
2y = 3x - 8

2(x - 3) = 3x - 8
2x - 6 = 3x -8
-2x -2x

-6 = x - 8
+8 +8

2 = x

to find y you plug x in an equation

y= x - 3
y = 2 - 3
y = -1

y=x-3
2y=3x-8
plug in y
2 (x-3)=3x-8
simplify
2x-6=3x-8
+8 both sides
2x+2=3x
-2x both sides
2=x
plug in to solve for y
y=2-3
y=-1
check if correct
2 (-1)=3 (2)-8
-2=6-8
-2=-2

true

x=2
y=-1
