Why are there more daylight hours during the summer in any particular hemisphere

The season when you're tilted towards the sun are summers. During summers, the day light lasts more than 12 hours because the sun is at it's northernmost position from the equator. During winters, daylight lasts less than 12 hours because the sun is at its southernmost position from the equator.
