A TV has a marked price of $840 but it is sold at a discount of 12 1/2% How much is the discount? How much is the TV sold for?

12.5%=.125
840x.125=105
840-105=735
735 is the price they are selling it for

The discount is 12 1/2% of the marked price; so

we say: Discount = 12.5% × $840 = 0.125 × $840

= $105.

Finally, the sold price would be the initial price - discount

thus, sold price = $840 - $105

= $735
