What was the impact of Nixon resigning the presidency?

Nixon was nearly impeached for his involvement in the Watergate Scandal. The government asked for secret tapes that he had recorded, but Nixon refused to hand them over with the excuse of Executive Privilege; meaning that the president has the right to withhold some information. Later, the tapes were listened to and information was found on Nixon's involvement in the Watergate Scandal. In fear of being impeached, Nixon simply resigned the presidency. After he resigned, his Vice President--Gerald Ford--took over the presidency. Unfortunately, Ford was relatively unprepared to be president, and he caused many future problems during the time that he had taken over.

It basically showed that executive privilege is limited. Nixon refused to turn in the tapes due to executive privilege, which is withholding information in the public interest, but this was limited.
