For P(x) = 2x^4 – 5x^3+x-10, use synthetic substitution to evaluate P(-2). P(1), and P(2).

Answer:

P(-2) = 2(-2^4) - 5(-2^3) + (-2) -10

= 2(16) - 5(-8) + (-2) - 10

= 32+40-2-10

= 60

P(1) = 2(1^4) - 4(1^3) + (1) - 10

= 2 - 4 + 1 - 10

= -11

P(2). = 2(2^4) - 5(2^3) + (2) - 10

= 2(16) - 5(8) + 2 - 20

= 32-40+2-10

= -20
