people try to bring other people down because they are down for example
lets say your in school and a kid bully's you they bully you bully you because they are going through something and they feel sad so they try to make you feel sad.

Overall it's saying that because they are trying to bring you down whether it be your mood, or just who you are. That they are below you asĀ in You are in a way better than them because you are already a better person then them. Hope this helps.
