(f + g)(x) = f (x) + g(x)
= (8x - 13) + (x - 9)
= 9x - 22
(f + g)(5) = 9(5) - 22 = 23

Answer:

The value of (f+g)(5) is 23.

Explanation:

The given functions are

f(x)=8x-13

g(x)=x-9

Substitute x=5 in each function to find the values of f(5) and g(5).

f(5)=8(5)-13=40-13=27

g(5)=5-9=-4

We have to find the value of (f + g)(5).

Using addition property of two functions,

(f+g)(5)=f(5)+g(5)

Substitute f(5)=27 and g(5)=-4 in the above equation.

(f+g)(5)=27-4

(f+g)(5)=23

Therefore the value of (f+g)(5) is 23.
