A jet travels 5456mi against the wind in 8 hours and 6416mi with the wind in the same amount of time. What is the rate of the jet in still air and what is the rate of the wind?

Airplane velocity against wind = 5,456 / 8 = 682 mph
Airplane velocity with wind = 6,416 / 8 = 802 mph

plane velocity -wind speed = 682
plane velocity +wind speed = 802
Adding both equations,
2 * plane velocity = 1,484
plane velocity = 742 mph

Since
plane velocity +wind speed = 802
742 + wind speed = 802
wind speed = 60 mph
