The reservation system is one that has been used numerous times by the federal government. This started with laws like the Indian Removal Act, which forced thousands of Cherokee Indians from Georgia to move to reservations in Oklahoma. This would be one of many forced migration of American Indians.

The goal of these reservations is to give American Indian groups land away from white settlers, as these two were constantly fighting over land. This was especially true in the east coast.
