You can find the distance between any two points by the "distance formula" which is derived from the Pythagorean Theorem
d^2=(x2-x1)^2+(y2-y1)^2
d^2=(-4--1)^2+(-4--8)^2
d^2=(-3)^2+4^2
d^2=9+16
d^2=25
d=√25
d=5 units
