A 6 cm object is 8 cm from a convex lens that has a focal length of 5 cm. The image is 4 cm from the lens.

So we want to know the height of the image Hi. The formula for magnification M is:

M=(Hi/H0)=-(Di/D0), where Hi is the height of the image, H0 is the height of the object, Di is the distance of the image form the lens and D0 is the distance of the object from the lens.

Here we have: H0=6 cm, Di=4 cm and D0= 8 cm.

Hi=-(Di/D0)*H0 = -(4/8)*6=-24/8=3 cm.

So the height of the image Hi=3 cm.
