The German army was quick to run short of supplies because of the destruction of factories, so they no longer had the strength to defend itself.

According to data from 1941 of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Dresden, the city was "one of the main industrial zones of the Reich." Taylor cites an official report of the Oberkommando des Heeres, high command of the German army, which lists up to 127 medium-sized factories and factories that supplied material to the army According to the United States Air Force, in February 1945 there were at least 110 factories and companies based in Dresden that constituted a "legitimate military objective". 18 The number of workers employed in the military industry in the area is estimated at between 50,000 and 70,000, including component factories for the Dresden-Klotzsche aviation workshops.

The bombing of Dresden was carried out towards the end of the Second World War by the British Royal Air Force (RAF) and the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF). This bombing destroyed the Nazi military factories, as well as their transport, this led to the German surrender with the decrease of their armaments.
