Why did the Japanese bomb Perl Harbor?

President Franklin Roosevelt called December 7, 1941, "a date which will live in infamy.". On that day, Japanese planes attacked the United States Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii Territory.

Hawaii is a very important, strategic location because it controls the Pacific Ocean and if the Japanese could take out the US naval fleet in Pearl Harbor, it would be easier to get oil from the Indis
