(x - 3)(x - 5) = 35

Simplify the left side.

x² - 5x - 3x + 15 = 35

Add your like terms.

x² + (-5x - 3x) + 15 = 35

Simplify.

x² - 8x + 15= 35

Simplify.

x² - 8x + 15 = 35

Subtract 35 from both sides of the equation.

x² - 8x + 15 - 35 = 35 - 35

Simplify.

x² - 8x - 20 = 0

Then, you simply factor out the left side of our equation.

(x + 2)(x - 10) = 0

Set it so that each factor equals zero. This basically just means that you take each equation inside the parenthesis and you make them equal zero.

x + 2 = 0 AND x - 10 = 0

x + 2 = 0

Subtract 2 from both sides.

x = -2

x - 10 = 0

Add 10 to both sides.

x = 10

So, x = -2 AND x = 10

So, you got your answer wrong.

~Hope I helped!~
