How is the federal income tax a progressive tax?

Although the overall federal taxsystem is progressive, with total federal tax burdens a larger percentage of incomefor higher-income households than for lower-income households, not all taxes within the federal system are equally progressive.

A progressive tax is a tax where the value can increase based on the taxable amount. If a person has more money and climbs to a higher tax bracket, the tax increases.
