Henry's house weighs 65,000 pounds. He removes all of his belongings which weigh 5,000 pounds. Movers are using Crib Jacks to lift the house, which can only handle up to 15 tons of weight each. How many Crib Jacks will the movers use to lift Henry's house?

Since 1 ton is 2,000 lbs, each Crib Jack can life 30,000 lbs. It's going to take 2 Crib Jacks, because the extra 5,000 lbs in belongings were removed, leaving the house at a weight of 60,000 lbs.

Answer:

2 Crib Jacks will be required.

Explanation:

Henry's house weighs 65000 pounds.

Weight of the belongings = 5000 pounds

Net weight of the structure = 65000 - 5000 = 60000 pounds

Movers are using Crib Jacks to lift the house.

Since 1 Crab Jack can handle weight up to 15 tones. So we have to find the number of Crib Jacks will be required to lift Henry's house.

∵ 1 tone = 2200 pounds

∴ 15 tones = 2200×15 = 33000 pounds

Now number Crib Jacks required = weight of the house ÷ weight one jack can handle = 60000 ÷ 33000 = 1.82 ≈ 2

Therefore 2 Crib Jacks will be required.
