Four containers A, B, C, and D contain tar. The tar in each of the containers A, B, C, and D have temperatures of 100°C, 200°C, 50°C, and 25°C respectively. Which statement is true?

A.) The tar molecules in container A move rapidly with more energy as compared to those in container B.

B.) The tar molecules in container C move rapidly with more energy as compared to those in container B.

C.) The tar molecules in container B move rapidly with more energy as compared to those in container A.

D.) The tar molecules in container D move rapidly with more energy as compared to those in container C.

Answer: C.) The tar molecules in container B move rapidly with more energy as compared to those in container A.

Step-by-step explanation: Kinetic energy is the energy possessed by an object by virtue of its motion. Average kinetic energy is defined as the average of the kinetic energies of all the particles present in a system.

K.E=(3RT)/(2)

K.E= Average kinetic energy

R= gas constant

T= temperature in Kelvin

From the equation above, it can be seen that kinetic energy is directly related to the temperature of the system. So, if temperature is more, average kinetic energy of the system is more and thus the molecules will move more rapidly.

Thus the tar molecules in container B with a higher temperature of
200^0C=(200+273)K=473K move rapidly with more energy as compared to those in container A with a temperature of
100^0C=(100+273)=373K

The true statement is C) The tar molecules in container B move rapidly with more energy as compared to those in container A.
This is based on the relation of the molecule motion, heat, and temperature. An increasing in temperature would increase the motion of the molecules inside a solid, liquid, or gas object.
