6 + y >_ 9 is your current inequality.
We need to get y by itself.
Subtract 6 from both sides.
y >_ 3 is your solved inequality.

We can essentially treat it as an algebraic equation.
6 + y > 9
therefore y > 3 (subtract 6 from both sides)
