x + y - 6 = 0
Take out y.
x - 6 = 0
Add 6 to both sides.
x = 6 is your first equation.

x - y - 8 = 0
Take out y.
x - 8 = 0
Add 8 to both sides.
x = 8 is your second equation.

I hope this helps!

Answer:

The answer is x=7

and y=-1

On eliminating y the resulting equation is 2x=14

Explanation:

Given x+y-6=0 ...........[1]

and x-y-8=0 ...............[2]

On eliminating y in eq [1]

y=6-x

Putting value of y in eq [2]

x-(6-x)-8=0

x-6+x-8=0

2x-14=0

2x=14

x=7

Putting x=7 in [1]

7+y-6=0

y+1=0

y=-1
